Artist’s Statement: 

This painting was inspired by an image of Marilyn Monroe on the set of the 1961 movie “ The Misfits”

Her marriage to Arthur Miller (who wrote the Misfits) was declining, her barbiturate addiction accelerating, yet her luminescent beauty transcended her declining mental state. This painting hopes to capture a brave yet deeply misunderstood woman and like the shattered sunset she is sinking before our eyes.

Within 18 months of the release of the Misfits she will be dead.
